Orange You Glad?

The color orange occurs between red and yellow in the visible spectrum. Now it can be seen all over the fashion runways as it is the "it" color for Spring/Summer. Even the business-centric Wall Street Journal ran an article a few weeks ago about the color orange now having its moment.

It seems to me that orange elicits a strong "love it" or "hate it" reaction, much like cilantro (hate it BTW). But with so many shades and hues out for the spring, it should be a cinch to find something you like.

I noticed this weekend, that Nordstroms had an entire display of orange handbags, including a fabulous Marc Jacobs. Resisting the urge to purchase, I remembered that I myself already have a fabulous orange DVF procured on a trip to Vegas a couple years ago. Ahhh, ahead of my time.

If you have an orange crush but not sure where to start, I suggest sticking with accessories, like a light cashmere scarf or a fun earrings. Something that quietly suggests that you you are embracing the color of the season and, more importantly, that you read the WSJ too.

How did you spend your day?

Sadly, I spent this afternoon at a memorial service for an amazing man who lost his life in a fatal car accident this week. He was only 37 years old. Though I didn't know him personally, he touched the lives of many and seemed to live his life to the fullest.

As I sat in the packed church, I couldn't help but think about how unpredictable life can be. For the most part, my days seem like Groundhog's Day. The morning panic of getting the kids ready for school and to the bus stop on time. Buzzing about all day trying to complete the 101 things you have to get done before that same bus pulls in the hood at 3:40pm. Homework, activities, dinner, bath, book, kisses, night-night...and repeat tomorrow. These robotic days are easy to take for granted but in a blink of an eye, everything can change. And for this unfortunate man and family, it did.

I want to live my life to the fullest. But I am not sure what that actually means? The more I think about it, the more complex the answer seems. Is it to be present in the moment (I am not sure what that means either)? Follow your passion? Forge meaningful relationships? Love and be loved? No regrets? I am guessing all of the above and probably many many many more.  With this tragic and untimely loss of life, I am inspired to figure out a definitive answer that fulfills me today and everyday forward. Because isn't how we spend our days, how we spend our lives?

If so inspired, please let me know how you are living life to the fullest. All 5 of you reading this ...

My first post!

Look at me,
Look at me!
Look at me now!
I finally have a blog, I just had to know how!

With some weeks of research and a little help from my brother (thanks, Joe!), lovelil.com is actually here. I am sure it will evolve over time, as everything does, but for now I plan to use this blog as a way to put a little love out there in the world.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer last November. Because of the overwhelming support I received from my family, friends, amazing doctors and healthcare professionals, I have been able to thrive in my recovery. This is one of my small ways of giving back.

lovelil.com will be a way for me to share my experience, my learnings, my opinions and advice for what I love.

Some frivolous.
Some fun.
Some fashion.
Some fitness.
...and a splash of serious.

But always from my heart. Please visit often...
